Experience經歷 |
The seeds of teaching interest and experience were first sown as a teenager working with elementary aged children at a Canadian summer camp. In the company of caring role models and mentors, the counseling, teaching, and program planning of these early years would lay a foundation for further teaching experiences abroad. My first Taiwan teaching experience was a long and fruitful one, instructing for 13 years at a Chiayi language school for young learners run by graduates of Tunghai University, followed by almost five and half years here at the Elementary Division of the Affiliated High School. |

A key specialty is experience with long term team-based activities which take English learning outside of the classroom and give students more democratic control and responsibility, including student radio show programming and reader's theater. |
Teaching Ideologies教學理念 |
As an educator I feel called to help children see the interdependent relationships between information, people, and the world around them. Successful living requires empathy, cooperation, and problem-solving, and I try manage my classes to facilitate this development through team-based lessons and communication tasks. I also believe that information is best learned in pieces that build upon each other, sequentially, contextually, and meaningfully to allow learners to truly acquire what they are required to learn. As such I try to scaffold what I teach in ways that different kinds of learners can understand, retain, and use each day. |

Teaching Ideologies教學理念 |
The general focus for my classes will be to create an interactive and dynamic learning experience grounded in the fundamentals of comprehension, reading, speaking and writing. I look forward to the challenges of making a classroom environment for my students that is both respectful and disciplined while maintaining an ethos of fun and creativity. The ability for any of my students to think on a conceptual level (or ‘out of the box’) is key and something that I will try to develop and encourage. I have always felt that English is a multifaceted subject and that a number of approaches for teaching it will be required. |
